Nehemiah 3:5 Next were the people from Tekoa, though their leaders refused to work with the construction supervisors.
Nehemiah 3:20 Next to him was Baruch son of Zabbai, who zealously repaired an additional section from the angle to the door of the house of Eliashib the high priest.
As the people were rebuilding the walls of the temple, you have the people from Tekoa refusing to work with anybody. We all know people like that. They are doing their own thing, probably grumbling all the way.
Then you have Baruch who is zealously building the wall. He is so pumped to rebuild God’s house!
They are both doing the same job, but one is building a wall, the other is building God’s temple.
One day in 1671, Christopher Wren observed three bricklayers on a scaffold, one crouched, one half-standing and one standing tall, working very hard and fast. To the first bricklayer, Christopher Wren asked the question, “What are you doing?” to which the bricklayer replied, “I’m a bricklayer. I’m working hard laying bricks to feed my family.”
The second bricklayer, responded, “I’m a builder. I’m building a wall.” But the third brick layer, the most productive of the three and the future leader of the group, when asked the question, “What are you doing?” replied with a gleam in his eye, “I’m a cathedral builder. I’m building a great cathedral to The Almighty.”
So, what are you doing in your life, your church, your family? Are you just laying bricks or building a cathedral? Your attitude is everything!
