Be A Barnabas!
Be A Barnabas
Acts 4:36
For instance, there was Joseph, the one the apostles nicknamed Barnabas (which means “Son of Encouragement”). He was from the tribe of Levi and came from the island of Cyprus.
I love today’s passage because it gives us something to aspire to. Joseph was nicknamed “the Son of Encouragement.” What a great nickname! Much better than “Debbie Downer,” or “Nick the Human Dark Cloud.”
The dictionary defines encouragement as, “the action of giving someone support, confidence, or hope.”
There is an old story about a preacher leaving a church. At his farewell dinner, he tried to encourage one of the founding members that looked very sad, “Don’t be so sad. The next preacher might be better than me.” She replied, “That’s what they said before you came but it just keeps getting worse.”
She was NOT nicknamed Barnabas!
Let’s change the world with encouraging words. Encourage the people in your life today. Offer someone who is struggling support. Tell someone today that you believe in them, help them with their confidence. One thing I know about encouragement is that when you give it, you get it, too!
