Romans 15:2 We should help others do what is right and build them up in the Lord.
Have you ever seen the animated kids show Bob The Builder? It’s about Bob, who, spoiler alert, is a builder. He has a team of friends, tools and equipment that helps him do stuff.
What I like about Bob is the idea that it takes teamwork to build something. The tools all have their jobs, the workers all have different specialities, and they come together to solve problems and build and fix things.
I don’t think I am stretching the point by saying that we should all be a little more like Bob the Builder. First of all, each one of us has different gifts and abilities that will help us serve God and build the church. As a pastor, I am called to teach and preach. I know people who are called to work with kids. I don’t like kids ministry. The little guys scare me! So I do my thing for the church while the kids people do their thing. Together, we build a church. Maybe you have the gift of helps, or hospitality. By working using your gifts, you help build the church.
One other way we can build is by building each other up. The world out there is more than willing to tear people down brick by brick. As Christians, we should be there to build people’s hearts by letting them know they are loved and cared for.
There is a lot of building that needs to get done, so grab your hard hat and let’s get to work!
