But, Lord…
Numbers 22:20 That night God came to Balaam and told him, “Since these men have come for you, get up and go with them. But do only what I tell you to do.”
Have you ever really, really wanted something? When I was growing up I wanted to be a pro football player and a pro baseball player. The curve balls I couldn’t hit took care of baseball dreams, and a blown up knee took care of football.
Then I wanted to be an actor. My grades and a distinct lack of funds wouldn’t get me in to the college I wanted, so acting was gone.
The last thing I wanted to be was a preacher. No way, no how.
I became a preacher. God does funny things sometimes.
Balaam was called to curse the Israelites, but God told him not to. Balak the king offered Balaam more money, so Balaam went back to God to see if God had changed his mind. He hadn’t. So God sent Balaam with the men, and Balaam had an encounter with a talking donkey and the angel of the Lord blocking his path.
Just because we change our mind, or really, really want something, doesn’t mean that God is going to change. He might let you go on your way, but the lumps and bumps that come with that path are all on you.
God has a perfect way for you to go. He knows what is best for you, and he will help you get there. So quit trying to change God’s mind, and change yours instead. And if you happen to see a talking donkey you may be on the wrong path…
