Chicken Nugget Prayers
Psalms 3:4
I cried out to the LORD, and he answered me from his holy mountain.
David said something that is easy to miss here. He cried out to the Lord, and the Lord answered. How did he know God answered? David was listening.
You’re no doubt familiar with Chicken McNuggets. They are indeed nugget sized, and supposedly made of real chicken. They are delicious, but they don’t look like real chickens. Henrietta the hen is not going to look into your box of nuggets and recoil in terror screaming, “Bob, what have they done to you?”
A lot of times we pray what I call “Chicken McNugget prayers.” They sound like prayer, but they don’t really resemble what David is saying here. “Lord, bless me, bless everybody, amen.” Is not the same as crying out to God. The crying out to God is the easy part. The hard part is listening for an answer.
So this week as you pray take time to listen for God’s response. It may not be immediate, and we may not like the answer, but God will answer. We just have to listen to hear it.
