Confused
Mark 9:32 They didn’t understand what he was saying, however, and they were afraid to ask him what he meant.
I got a D in Geometry in high school. It was the only D I got in high school. You see, math and I were never great friends. I just couldn’t imagine a time in my life where someone would hold a gun to my head and ask me to solve for x. I firmly believe that God made math perfect, and then Satan came by and added in all the letters.
I would listen to Mr. Briggs drone on about variables, and coefficients, and constants. Constants we’re the only thing I related to because I was constantly confused! I swear you could see the goldfish swimming behind my eyes as I fell deeper and deeper into a quagmire of ignorance.
Over the years, and through situations where algebra and geometry really did come in handy, I learned. Once I took over the crime scene unit for the Sheriff’s Office, I used algebra and geometry quite a bit. Who knew that would happen?
The disciples must have felt the same way sometimes as they listened to Jesus. They heard him talk about spiritual things and many times they didn’t understand. Cue the goldfish…
I am encouraged when I read that the disciples were confused. It gives me hope that If these guys, who didn’t get everything the first, or even the second time they heard, could change the world for Christ, so can I. And so can you.
So if you get to a Scripture or spiritual concept you do not grasp, don’t freak out. Go to God and ask him to help you understand. James 1:5 says, “If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.” We don’t have to be confused, God has answers for us, and those answers bring us closer to him. The closer to God we get, the better our lives become.
