Contrast
Judges 17:6
In those days Israel had no king; all the people did whatever seemed right in their own eyes.
Psalms 89:8
O LORD God of Heaven’s Armies! Where is there anyone as mighty as you, O LORD? You are entirely faithful.
I heard a definition of the contrast between infatuation & love. It says, "Infatuation is when you think your husband is as handsome as Tom Cruse, as amusing as Rodney Dangerfield, as intellectual as Albert Einstein, as devout as Billy Graham, and as athletic as Dennis Rodman." That is infatuation.
"Love is realizing that your husband is as handsome as Albert Einstein, as intellectual as Dennis Rodman, as devout as Tom Cruse, as athletic as Rodney Dangerfield, & as amusing as Billy Graham. But you love him anyway." That’s quite a contrast!
Our two verses today give us a contrast between our faithfulness and God’s faithfulness. God is ever faithful; us, not so much.
What’s so sad is that Israel had a king. In fact, they had the King of Kings, the Lord of Lords. God was their king, yet they were unfaithful to the God who had given them so much.
The Psalmist speaks of God as mighty, and always faithful.
Our lives don’t have to be a broken-down shack, surrounded by beauty, yet not beautiful. We can be as beautiful as the nature God has placed around us, the key is being faithful to Him.
As we are faithful to God he expands our borders, he shows himself to be faithful, even in the little areas of our lives. There really shouldn’t be a contrast between our faithfulness and God’s.
Today’s Readings: Judges 17,18; Psalm 89; 2 Corinthians 3
