Despised Things!
Luke 10:33
“Then a despised Samaritan came along, and when he saw the man, he felt compassion for him.
I’m not a huge fan of cottage cheese. Well, that’s not fair to say. Really, I despise cottage cheese! Cottage cheese ranks #1 on the list of “Foods that Jerry Godsey will never intentionally eat.” Followed by liver, cow tongue and snails. Blecch!
I know, I know, people have told me cottage cheese is delicious. “You mix it with some fruit, and it is great.” No, all you’ve done is ruin good fruit.
One day an expert in religious law came to Jesus and asked him a question. After Jesus answered him to love his neighbor, the “expert” asked Jesus “Who is my neighbor.
So Jesus told him the parable of the Good Samaritan. After a priest and a Temple assistant passed by a guy who got the snot kicked out of him, along came a Samaritan. The Samaritans and the Jews hated each other!
So I can picture Jesus saying, “Then a despised Samaritan came along…” and waiting for dramatic effect. The crowd starts thinking, “Oh man, the dude was beat up, left for dead, and now he has to deal with a Samaritan, too? This dude is really gonna get it now…”
But that’s not what happened. The Samaritan took care of the guy and even paid for lodging and care for him. Classic plot twist!
Think of the people or situations in your life that you just can’t understand or like. In a classic plot twist, those may be the exact situations or people that God will use to bless you and others. If you are too busy turning your nose up at them, or railing against them, you may miss an opportunity that God has for you. You never know when God will turn everything around, Samaritan or not! I think the only thing God can’t use is cottage cheese!
Cottage cheese is still NOT on the menu… Jerry
