Titus 3:9
Do not get involved in foolish discussions about spiritual pedigrees or in quarrels and fights about obedience to Jewish laws. These things are useless and a waste of time.
Jimmy Kimmel asked people to Tweet their dumbest family fights, and boy, did his fans deliver!
The day the clocks turned back for daylight savings time. Members of my family kept arguing about what time we should feed the cat so she wouldn't be confused.
Me and my parents and sister had a very lengthy fight about my wedding. Which sounds normal until you find out that I'm not engaged. In fact, I don't even have a boyfriend...
This past xmas eve, my aunt called my brother's dog ugly, my sister-in-law replied that her granddaughter was ugly, so my aunt punched her.
These are pretty moronic reasons to argue (or punch somebody). What’s worse is that we can all recount stupid arguments from our families. It is just so easy to get caught up in these petty dramas.
In our verse today, Paul told Timothy not to get involved in foolish arguments about religion. The Greek root word for foolish is where English gets the word moron. That about sums up most of the “religious” arguments I have heard over the years.
Whatever you do, don’t get caught up in arguments about which version of the Bible to read, or whether Adam and Eve had bellybuttons. There is a lost and dying world out there that needs to hear about Jesus, and we can’t reach them when we are too busy fighting amongst ourselves.
So, what do you think about the whole Adam and Eve thing? You know what, nevermind…
Today’s Readings: 1 Timothy 5,6; Titus 1-3
