Different, But The Same
Galatians 3:28 There is no longer Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male and female. For you are all one in Christ Jesus.
According to the United States Census Bureau, America breaks down like this:
White 75.8%
Hispanic 18.9%
African American 13.6%
Asians 6.1%
Native American 1.5%
When you add those percentages together you get this wonderful country. We are diverse, with different skin tones, histories, backgrounds and cultures. We are all Americans. As our currency says, “E Pluribus Unum”, “Out of Many One.”
We share one common characteristic across the board: We are all God’s children. Just like America, God’s Church is made up of many different kinds of folks. We are different races, different socio-economic groups, different family backgrounds, different politics, yet in Christ we are one.
There is so much division in the world today, but in Christ we are one. Unfortunately, the church has a checkered past of embracing that unity. We can’t fix what happened in the past, but we can, and should, learn from it. Here’s an idea. This Sunday, open the front doors of your church and yell, “Y’all come on in.” Embrace each other, worship together, and be united in the Savior who died for each one of you.
