The master of the house was going on a trip, so he called in three of his servants and gave them a sack of money to take care of while he was gone. He gave to each man according to his abilities. One man got five bags of silver, one got two bags, and the last guy got one bag.
When the master arrives back home, he calls the servants back in and asks them how it went.
The five bag man tells the master that he was given five bags and has gained five more. Matthew 25:21 gives us his response: “The master was full of praise. ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together!’
The two bag man tells the master that he was given two bags and has gained two more. The master gives him the exact same speech.
Then one bag man comes in. He lets the master know that the master is a harsh man, and he was afraid of losing the bag, so he hid it in his backyard in an old coffee can. The master is furious and kicks the one bag man out of his palace.
The first two men had different amounts of money given to them and they returned different amounts of return, but the master gave them the exact same blessing. Their faith in their master gave them freedom to invest and gain. The third man’s fear of his master led him to lose everything.
God wants to bless you and do great things through you and in you. But you have to trust him. You must believe he has the best in store for you. If you are serving God out of fear you are never going to be able to step out and be a blessing, and that cuts down on the blessings you can get.
Now go dig up that coffee can and start trusting your Heavenly Father!
