Divine Appointments
Luke 19:5
When Jesus came by, he looked up at Zacchaeus and called him by name. “Zacchaeus!” he said. “Quick, come down! I must be a guest in your home today.”
When I was a kid in Sunday School we used to sing a song about this story from Luke:
“Zacchaeus was a wee little man, and a wee little man was he…”
I have no doubt that song is not politically correct, so don’t @ me about it. It tells the story of Zacchaeus, a tax collector. He wanted to see Jesus so he he climbed into a sycamore-fig tree for a better look.
As Jesus passed by, he looked up into the tree and called Zacchaeus by name and said, “Let’s do lunch!”
Was it coincidence that they met? No, it was a divine appointment. Zacchaeus climbed that tree and he was in the right place and it was the right time for him to meet Jesus. Zacchaeus and his whole household were saved that day.
Are you looking for divine appointments, places where Jesus puts the right person at the right time in your path? These are opportunities for you to share what God has done in your life.
You don’t have to be a theologian, or a Biblical scholar, just tell them what Jesus has done for you. That is the best message of all.
Someone once said that telling people about Jesus is like one beggar telling another beggar where he found bread. That is how you share Jesus! “I was lost, hurting and about to give it all up, but here’s what Jesus has done in my life…”
You can do that! All you have to do is look out for your divine appointments. You may want to look up into the branches of sycamore trees, too…
