Luke 18:4-5
The judge ignored her for a while, but finally he said to himself, “I don’t fear God or care about people, but this woman is driving me crazy. I’m going to see that she gets justice, because she is wearing me out with her constant requests!”
Ovid said, “Dripping water hollows out stone, not through force but through persistence.”
The judge in today’s verses was not a good guy. He didn’t fear God, and he didn’t care about people. The magistrates that were sent from Rome to handle the complaints of the Jewish didn’t care about them.
Along comes a widow asking for justice. She is in a dispute, and this judge couldn’t care less. Day after day she appears before him, asking for, pleading for, demanding, justice.
Now, the judge doesn’t care about her case, but he is tired of this woman! Finally, he says he will render a verdict because she is driving him nuts!
Jesus ends the parable by comparing this uncaring, unfeeling judge to God, saying that if this bad guy who doesn’t care about people renders justice, how much better will you fare with a God who loves you?
We can often get frustrated when we pray if we don’t see anything happening right away. We often think that we are like the drop of water, wearing out God until He answers.
Nope. We are the rock. Our persistence in prayer isn’t changing God, it is changing us. As we pray, God breaks down our resistances to Him, we are taught to be patient and wait for God’s perfect timing. So get to praying, and let God change you drop by drop.
