Except…
Numbers 13:30-31
But Caleb tried to quiet the people as they stood before Moses. “Let’s go at once to take the land,” he said. “We can certainly conquer it!”
But the other men who had explored the land with him disagreed. “We can’t go up against them! They are stronger than we are!”
Twelve men were sent to scout out the Promised Land. God told them the land was Israel’s inheritance, so men were sent to check it out. The land was just as God said!
Except…
There were fortified cities and some really big dudes!
Caleb said, “Let’s go! We can do it!” Caleb compared the problem to God, and God wins.
Ten other spies said, “No way, those giants will crush us! Run away, run awaaaaay…” They compared the problem to themselves and knew there was no way they could win.
F.B. Meyer compared the perspective of the ten unbelieving spies to that of the two faithful spies, Caleb and Joshua: “They saw the same spectacles in their survey of the land; but the result in the one case was panic, in the other confidence and peace. What made the difference? It lay in this, that the ten spies compared themselves with the giants, whilst the two compared the giants with God.”
As you look at your life today, do you have confidence and peace, or do you have panic? Are you fretting over losses of the past and fear of the future, or do you have confidence that God will help you conquer anything? “I know God can do stuff, except…”
Are you ready to conquer or run away? God has all of the power he needs, and you need, to conquer anything in your life. Whatever is facing you today, confidently say, “God will conquer (insert need or fear here) for me!” And whatever you do, don’t add “except” afterward.
You may not have the power to be victorious and conquer, but God does!
