Today’s verse is really today’s chapters. In 1 Chronicles 25-27 a list is given of the different jobs that have been assigned to the people of Israel. It is easy to get bogged down in these passages because there are a lot of names here. A LOT of names. But there is something really cool here.
Everybody had a place to minister. Some of them served as priests, some of them served as gatekeepers, some of them served as musicians. There were people to watch over the accounts, and to run the storehouses, and there were military leaders. There were layers of jobs under these headings, too.
In short, there was a lot of stuff to get done, and a lot of people were needed to do it.
Have you found your place of ministry yet? What are you contributing to the church where you worship?
There are an awful lot of people who show up on Sunday mornings, grumbling that they couldn’t find parking, or that the coffee wasn’t as warm as it should be. Then they find some chair or pew to polish with their behind, put their bulletin on their chest like a napkin and say, “Feed me, Pastor!” After the sermon (which they didn’t like), they leave without saying hi to anyone, then complain that nobody is friendly at that church.
Don’t be that guy. Godsey 4:18 (my own verse I made up) says that if God makes you aware of a problem he expects you to do something about it. Get in, roll up your sleeves, and find your place of ministry. It might be leading worship, it might be teaching a class, or making coffee or setting up chairs. Whatever it is, find your place and minister. You’ll be surprised how little you find to grumble about when you serve.
