John 14:6 Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.
I have been reading about people who think Christianity, and especially today’s verse are too restrictive. “There is more than one way to heaven,” they say. The idea is that any religion or good behavior will get you to heaven, not just Jesus.
So I decided to test their theory when I visited Boston the other day. The Red Sox were playing later that night, and I wanted to see the game. I had just won a ton of tickets playing skeeball at Chuck E. Cheese, so I took my precious little blue tickets to Fenway Park and tried to get in.
To my horror, when I tried to get in, they demanded a ticket for the Red Sox game. I told them I thought this attitude was restrictive and not at all Christian. They said they didn't care what I thought, you had to have a ticket to get in.
"But I have a ticket", I protested.
"Yeah," said the security guard as he reached for his can of mace, "but you don't have the right ticket." Needless to say, I did not get into the game.
Why do people assume that God is somehow less stringent in His rules than we are? We just celebrated Easter, the day where we commemorate the death and resurrection of Jesus. Jesus was God's only Son. His only one. And God let Him die for our sins. Don't you think God may be a little strict about how we feel about Jesus?
The problem with the “any religion is okay” philosophy is that it goes directly against what Jesus Himself said in today’s verse.
No, if you want to spend eternity in heaven, there's only one way, accept Jesus as your savior and live for Him.
