Giants!
Deuteronomy 3:11 (King Og of Bashan was the last survivor of the giant Rephaites. His bed was made of iron and was more than thirteen feet long and six feet wide. It can still be seen in the Ammonite city of Rabbah.)
King Og was a big dude, and he ruled a land of giants. When the scouts were sent to check out the Promised Land, even though the land was fruitful and everything God had promised, when they saw the giants they were afraid.
The second time they ran into Og, things were different. This time the army of Bashan was wiped out totally. God had come through for the Israelites again. The same thing would have happened the first time, God had promised it, but they let fear get in the way.
We all face giants from time to time. It could be the giant of a health scare. It could be a giant of a relationship problem, or a huge bill. Whatever giant you are facing, God is with you. He has promised to meet our needs and never leave us.
We just have to trust him, and this is where we can get into trouble. Trust isn’t easy, especially when we are staring down giants.
You don’t prepare to slay giants in the heat of the moment. You plan ahead. It’s the same for us, when we face our giants. You lay the groundwork for facing them down every day, as you lean on God and trust him for little things. The faith you build every day will set the tone for your life when the giants come. They are ready to be slayed!
