Psalms 133:1 How wonderful and pleasant it is when brothers live together in harmony!
I have been a singer for quite a while. I have mainly been a soloist, both with soundtracks and in a band. I even tried to sing in the church choir. The problem with singing in the choir is that I had to blend in and sing harmony.
I couldn’t do it, and still can’t.
I tried, I really did. I frustrated my aunt Leslie Brewer to no end. Then I frustrated Kelly Berg, too. They were both convinced I could sing harmony if I wanted to.
They even tried pairing me with Joe Evangelist, the strongest voice in our bass section. Poor Joe. I would stand next to him and try to sing the same notes Joe did. Unfortunately, I was always a little bit behind. I had to hear Joe’s note, then change mine to what it was supposed to be. To his credit, Joe encouraged me and never punched me, although I am positive he wanted to!
There are people who struggle with harmony in their lives. They just can’t get along with others. They are critical of others, or they see everyone else as a foe instead of a friend. Their attitude holds them back, and they never quite get over it. Their attitude affects everyone around them.
The difference is that other than Aunt Leslie and Kelly, I am not commanded to sing harmony. As Christians, we are supposed to be harmonious. Our love for Christ allows us to live in harmony with our families, our church, and our community. When the world looks at Christians they need to see people who love and accept each other, warts and all. You know, like Joe Evangelist did for me!
