Hot Wheels Life
2 Corinthians 5:17 This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!
A few years ago I went to Nicaragua to tour Latin American Child Care schools with a few other pastors. With the help of my Hot Wheel collecting group, the Round Table of Goodness, I had stocked up on Hot Wheels and little dolls to take with me and distribute to kids.
We stopped in a village that had been ravaged by a volcano that erupted and swept the town away in a wall of water. The people that survived put together little huts, and were doing their best to survive. When the missionary announced that we were going to give away toys, the kids in the crowd went nuts! Dolls and Hot Wheels cars were flying through the group, and the kids all loved it.
I asked the missionary why they were so excited over $1 toys and she answered, “These kids have never had a brand new toy, and most of them never will again.” I will never forget the looks on the faces of those children as they looked at their new treasured possession.
Accepting Christ gives us a brand new life that is so much more meaningful than a Hot Wheels car. One that brings us joy, comfort, and peace. Our verse today says we have become a brand new person. The old has gone, the new has come!
This worlds wears us down, and most of us bear the internal and external scars of this life. God is offering a new, unspoiled life, a new chance. Will you accept it?
