Daniel 3:24 But suddenly, Nebuchadnezzar jumped up in amazement and exclaimed to his advisers, “Didn’t we tie up three men and throw them into the furnace?”
“Yes, Your Majesty, we certainly did,” they replied.
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego had a choice: bow down like everybody else, or risk everything by standing up for God.
They chose to stand. The king flew into a rage, and had the flames in the furnace stoked higher than it had ever been. It was so hot that the guards who threw Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego into the furnace died from the heat.
As the men stood in the flames, the king sees four men, not three, standing in the furnace. He gets as close to the flames as he can and yells for them to come out. They weren’t burned or scorched, in fact, they didn’t even smell like smoke!
Who was the fourth man in the fire? The king said he looked like a god. Maybe not A god, maybe THE God!
When you take a stand for Christ you may get people who don’t understand. You may get reviled or laughed at. You might even get persecuted. Just like Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, remember that you are not alone. God has promised to be with us through thick and thin. The prophet Isaiah said in Isaiah 43:2:
When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you.
So when the fire flares or the rains fall, hang on to the only one who can keep you.
