Let Your Love Flow
1 Thessalonians 3:12 And may the Lord make your love for one another and for all people grow and overflow, just as our love for you overflows.
When I first read today’s verse I thought of lava. Lava is molten magma that gets expelled when a volcano erupts. At over 2000 degrees Fahrenheit, it is hot. As it streams down the sides of the volcano it destroys everything in its path.
We have tried over the years to stop lava flows, but we haven’t been real successful. In 1935 the U.S. Army tried to bomb a channel on Hawaii’s Mauna Loa volcano. It didn’t work. They tried once more in 1942, and still no luck. Others have tried with a little success, but in the end, lava is a force that can’t be stopped, only slowed.
The love Christians are called to have is a force as well. God’s love should flow through us to everyone we know and make contact with. In today’s divisive society, it is even more important for Christians to show love, true love, God’s love.
And like lava, nothing can stop God’s love. It flows and overflows from our lives into the world around us. Unlike lava, God’s love is a force for good, not destroying, but building.
Challenge yourself to show God’s love. Show it to your family and friends. Show it to the people you work with, or meet at the grocery store. And most of all, show it to people you disagree with. The world is full of people ready to condemn others, and we don’t need more. We need more people who show God’s true love.
