Exodus 23:28-30
I will send the hornet ahead of you to drive the Hivites, Canaanites and Hittites out of your way. But I will not drive them out in a single year, because the land would become desolate and the wild animals too numerous for you. Little by little I will drive them out before you, until you have increased enough to take possession of the land.
The new pastor of We’re Holier Than You church (established 1785) moved the piano on the platform about three feet to the left. It needed to be moved for a new orchestra that was going to play on Sundays for worship.
Little did the pastor know that God Himself had placed that piano on that exact spot, and no man, beast, or lowly pastor could move it. The deacons threw a fit!
So the pastor put the piano back. Peace came back to the church. But every week the pastor moved the piano an inch toward its new spot. After a year the piano was right where it needed to be, and none of the deacons were any wiser. He was patient and moved the piano little by little.
When God told the Israelites about the land he was going to give them, he told them he wouldn’t turn it over to them all at once. They would be overwhelmed, and the land and livestock would suffer. He would give them the land little by little. When they were ready to handle more, he would give it to them.
So may times we want God to do everything all at once in our lives. If he did, most of us would be overwhelmed and start complaining about how hard our life is. God, in his wisdom, gives us more and more blessings, more and more responsibility, and more and more chances to serve him, as we mature and grow.
Don’t get impatient and try to hurry God. His timing is perfect, ours ain’t. Let him work in you at the perfect pace he sets. If you are patient and faithful, you will get where God wants you!
