Lost and Found
Deuteronomy 4:29
But from there you will search again for the LORD your God. And if you search for him with all your heart and soul, you will find him.
When I taught school we always had a “lost and found” box. It was amazing what ended up in the box. Jackets, lunchboxes, shirts, shoes, even underwear! We found books, pencils, and even a retainer.
Eventually, some kid would show up and say, “Mr. Godsey, I lost my jacket.” I would send him to the lost and found box, and magically the jacket would go from lost to found.
In our lives it is easy for us to get lost, too. We chase money, fame, success, and all of the trappings of this life. In the end, we find out, like Solomon, Ecclesiastes 1:2 “Everything is meaningless,” says the Teacher, “completely meaningless!”
So we seek new things to give our lives meaning. You can search and search, then search some more, but you will never find what you are looking for until you find Jesus.
The bad news is that we are lost; the good news is that God has been waiting for us all along. Like a hopeful father waiting for his wayward child to come home, God has been waiting for you, hurting for your pain, loving you no matter what.
Being found is really as simple as praying, “God, please forgive me, I want to be yours and follow you. I accept Christ as my Savior.” You don’t even have to kneel to do it!
It is time for you to be pulled out of the lost box and be found.
If you have prayed this prayer, or one like it today, and would like to know what to do next, drop me a line jerry@jerrygodsey.com I would love to help point you in the right direction. And welcome home!
