2 John 1:6 Love means doing what God has commanded us, and he has commanded us to love one another, just as you heard from the beginning.
A couple of years ago I was given a copy of Bob Goff’s incredible book, “Love Does.” My co-pastor, Jeremiah Vik, and I were so impressed by the book that we did a whole sermon series at Remnant based on it. In fact, Bob was even gracious enough to send us a personal video to show the church.
The premise of the book is simple, yet profound: loves does. Love is not an inert thing, it is not passive, love is active. The love of Christ flows through us and out of us as we serve Him. You can’t help it, when Christ’s Love gets down into your heart it flows out of every pore of your existence.
At least, it should. A great way to check your spiritual temperature is to ask yourself how much love you are showing to others. Is your love active, being offered to people that need it, even if they don’t deserve it? Especially if they don’t deserve it?
According to today’s verse, love isn’t just a suggestion it is a command. How are you doing?
Today’s Readings: Jeremiah 37-39; Psalm 79; 2 John
