John 13:4-5 So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him.
In the days before cars people’s feet would get dry and dusty. It was an act of hospitality to have a servant, or even the woman of the house, wash and dry the feet of guests.
Jesus got up from the table, wrapped a towel around his waist, and washed the disciples’ feet. The King of Kings and Lord of Lords took on the role of a humble servant and performed a lowly task. Jesus had an MBA.
Dave Thomas said: “I got my MBA long before my GED. I even have a photograph of me in my MBA graduation outfit; a snazzy knee length work apron. I guarantee you that I’m the only founder among America’s big companies whose picture in the corporate annual report shows him wielding a mop and a plastic bucket. That wasn’t a gag; it was a case of leading by example. At Wendy’s, MBA does not mean Master of Business Administration. It means Mop Bucket Attitude. It’s how we define satisfying the customer through cleanliness, quality food, friendly service, and atmosphere.”
Mop Bucket Attitude. No matter how important you think you are, no matter how far up the corporate or social ladder you have climbed, you have to keep that MBA.
In Matthew Jesus said:
Matthew 20:28 For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
How is your MBA? Do you have one? Are you willing to serve, even if it means wrapping a towel around your waist, or grabbing a mop and a bucket?
The world is waiting for us to show we are like Jesus, that we follow him completely. They are waiting to see our Mop Bucket Attitude. Grab a mop!
