Ezekiel 43:19-21 At that time, the Levitical priests of the family of Zadok, who minister before me, are to be given a young bull for a sin offering, says the Sovereign LORD. You will take some of its blood and smear it on the four horns of the altar, the four corners of the upper ledge, and the curb that runs around that ledge. This will cleanse and make atonement for the altar. Then take the young bull for the sin offering and burn it at the appointed place outside the Temple area.
I was standing in front of the church doing the welcome announcements, “Welcome to Remnant! We’re glad you are in church with us today. Now, I know we have a lot of sin offerings today, so let’s get started. Take your bull over to the other pastors and they will kill your bull and smear some of the blood around…” Then I woke up in a cold sweat! It happens every time I read about what the priests had to do in the Temple.
I am so glad that I pastored churches under grace! We no longer have to offer animal sacrifices because Jesus was the final, perfect sacrifice. I don’t have the blood of bulls, sheep or goats covering me, I am covered by the blood of Jesus.
Take some time today to thank God for making the ultimate sacrifice for you. He sent is only Son to shed blood and die in your place. What do you get out of it? You get eternal life in heaven, and you get a better, more fulfilling life down here. And you don’t have to sacrifice a cow to get it!
