Revelation 21:3-4 I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, “Look, God’s home is now among his people! He will live with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be with them. He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.”
I was youth pastor for my Grandpa in Beaumont, California for a couple of years. Grandpa loved to do house visits. I would be sitting at home or in my office and get a call, “Jerry, meet me outside, we’re going to do some visitations.”
It seemed like every time we went somewhere together, we would pass the cemetery in Beaumont. Grandpa, without fail, like clockwork, would point to the cemetery and say, “People are dying to get in there…” It was marginally funny the first time, not so much the 45th time.
There is coming a day when death will be at an end. The cemeteries will be empty, but heaven will be full. Grandpa’s joke won’t work anymore.
In Heaven there will be no more pain, no more death, no more suffering, yet the most amazing thing about Heaven is that we will see God face to face in all His glory. Our verse today says he will live with His people, and we will live with Him. As the old hymn says, “What a day that will be…”
