Playground Survival
1 John 4:4 But you belong to God, my dear children. You have already won a victory over those people, because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world.
When we were kids, my brothers and I had a code: if you mess with one of us, you mess with all of us. If Greg and I were fighting you needed to stay out of it, because if you got involved you would have to fight both of us. That system worked while we were in elementary school.
Then Greg got the idea that he could say whatever he wanted to the biggest kids on the playground, and I would come to his aid if he bit off more than he could chew.
One day Greg picked on the biggest kid on the playground at Jefferson Elementary School and shouted for me to help. I ran over to where Greg was standing and found him facing off with a high school kid. I made some mental calculations, and I came to the conclusion that I was not going to get my behind kicked (and it would have been), and told Greg, “Nope, you are on your own this time.”
Thankfully, God never treats us like I treated Greg. God is there for us, and has helped us win victories in fights we didn’t even know we were in. Unlike me, God is greater than anything or anyone we will ever face. We aren’t left hanging in the playground of life! When you are faced with seemingly astronomical odds, just remember; the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world. You got this!
