Philippians 2:13 For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.
When my boys were little they lived to push the grocery cart. They were tiny, but the wanted to be a “big boy” in charge of driving. Sitting in the “baby seat” was not an option, they wanted to push!
So they would reach up to put their hands on the bar and start pushing. After a few seconds, I would surreptitiously put my hands on the bar and get the cart going. As they “drove” through the grocery store, my job was to steer clear of other shoppers and anything made of glass.
My boys had the desire, but they didn’t have the power. Dad had to step in and augment their desire with his pushing power.
In our Christian lives we often have the desire to be holy, we want to be used by God, we just don’t have the power.
Today’s verse tells us that God is working in us, giving us the desire and the power to please him. As Charles Swindoll said, "Christ says in effect, ‘You want to live My life? Here is My power.’”
God has his hands on the cart of your life. He wants to use your desire, augment it with his power, and lead you to greater accomplishments than you ever thought possible.
