3 John 1:3 Some of the traveling teachers recently returned and made me very happy by telling me about your faithfulness and that you are living according to the truth.
When you are a kid there is one day you dread: the day report cards go home. There, in black and white, is your whole life for the last few weeks. If you have shirked your homework, or talked in class, or been less than a good citizen your parents are going to find out.
On the other hand, if you have done your work, been kind to other kids, and been a good student, your report card will reflect that as well.
In 3rd John we start off with a report card for a man named Gaius. John is happy to let Gaius know that his good deeds have been heard of, and appreciated. Gaius got all A’s!
Gaius was not only a good host to the traveling preachers that came through, they all reported how Gaius was living “according to the truth.”
What would your report card look like? Would the people you meet daily report that you are gracious and loving? What about the way you live your life? Would people who know you say you are living “according to the truth?”
Just like third grade, we are all being observed, noted, and reported on by those around us. We owe it to ourselves, and to God, to make sure we get a good report card.
