1 Timothy 5:24-25 Remember, the sins of some people are obvious, leading them to certain judgment. But there are others whose sins will not be revealed until later. In the same way, the good deeds of some people are obvious. And the good deeds done in secret will someday come to light.
I’m a car guy. While I like a large variety of cars and trucks, I have a soft spot for muscle cars, pony cars, and pickup trucks. I have owned quite a few pretty cool cars and trucks over the years.
Being a car guy, I watch car shows. I really like the programs that show car restorations and modifications. I sit entranced, and sometimes have to wipe away the drool from my mouth when a really good looking 69 Mustang or 70 Cougar are shown!
I have seen shows where a guy brings his shiny muscle car into a shop for a small repair, only to find out that the car has had shoddy work done to it. The worst is when rust is just covered with body filler or pieces of metal bonded over the rusty spot. In short, the cars were just shiny rust.
Why did the owners buy these rust buckets? Because the rust was hidden. It wasn’t easy to see, but it showed up if you knew where to look. Or it was made obvious when the floor rusted out of the car!
There are other cars that I like: sleepers. These cars look like ordinary grocery getting family cars. Then when you pop the hood, you see amazing engines and chassis work. Again, you couldn’t tell from the outside.
Our lives can be like that. We look good on Sunday mornings, but we are really spiritually rusting away inside. We have the look, but it is covering a deadly secret.
There are others who just seem plain to us, but they are having amazing impacts for God’s kingdom! They are the ones sharing their faith, supporting their church and pastor, helping their neighbors. They aren’t flashy, but the have the horsepower!
Which are you?
