Acts 2:25-26
King David said this about him: ‘I see that the LORD is always with me. I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me. No wonder my heart is glad, and my tongue shouts his praises! My body rests in hope.
Steve Brown tells the story of some frustrated British social scientists. Following the end of British rule in India in the 1940s, a group of researchers wanted to study the impact of the end of British rule on the life of the nation. After six months, the British social scientists gave up and went home. Though the British had been present in India since the 1600s, many people in the villages of the country were not aware that the British had ever been there!
As Christians we don’t have to be shaken by war or troubles. We don’t have to be shaken by sickness or pain. The headlines of the day don’t need to cause us to fear, we have the promise of God’s presence.
In today’s verse, Peter is speaking to a crowd not long after failing Jesus. Instead of sulking or shrinking, he quotes a Psalm of King David.
Peter declares, “No wonder my heart is glad! No wonder I am not shaken! No wonder my heart and being shouts praises! God is with me!”
You can read the headlines and get shook, or you can throw your head back, sing praises and enjoy your Father’s presence!
