1 Corinthians 13:4-7
Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.
On our first trip through 1 Corinthians, I encouraged you to take your spiritual temperature by replacing the word “love” in today’s passage with your name.
For example, “Jerry is patient and kind.” Crud, I’m not off to a good start…
I wouldn’t normally revisit a passage like this, but I believe we should be taking our spiritual temperature regularly, if not daily. Here, in these few verses is a way to decipher how we are doing with God and the people around us. It is easy to drift with the tide and find ourselves far from God’s shore. Taking our spiritual temperature helps stop the drift.
So, how are you doing compared to earlier this year? You may find reasons to be really encouraged. You may also find some areas where you need to get to work. Both of those are good for you and the people around you.
