Taking A Risk
Mark 15:43
Joseph of Arimathea took a risk and went to Pilate and asked for Jesus’ body. (Joseph was an honored member of the high council, and he was waiting for the Kingdom of God to come.)
One of the unsung heroes of Christ’s crucifixion was Joseph of Arimathea. He went to Pilate and asked for Jesus’ dead body. The Roman custom was for the bodies of crucified individuals to hang on their crosses and be devoured by wild animals. This added even further humiliation to the condemned and their families.
In steps Joseph to claim his teacher’s body. It was the leaders of the High Council who sought the death of Christ, and it was one of their own who stepped up and gave Jesus a resting place. David Guzik wrote, “Joseph did not serve Jesus in many ways, but he did serve Him in ways no one else did or could. It was not possible for Peter, James, John, or even the many women who served Jesus to provide a tomb, but Joseph could and did. We must serve God in whatever way we can.”
At great personal cost, both financially and in his reputation, Joseph stepped up and did what others couldn’t.
You are given ways to serve Christ every day in ways that others aren’t. It may be a kind word to someone that no one else can give. It may be sharing Christ’s love in a practical or spiritual way. As each day starts you have no idea what that day’s assignment may be, and that’s not important. The important thing is to be ready to respond when your opportunity presents itself.
When your time comes, will you be ready to take a risk for Christ?
