Tell Them
Acts 22:15
For you are to be his witness, telling everyone what you have seen and heard.
A small boy was on the witness stand in an important lawsuit. The prosecuting attorney cross-examined him, then delivered, he thought, a crushing blow to the testimony. "Your father has been telling you how to testify, has he not?"
"Yes," the lad replied and did not hesitate with the answer.
"Now," said the lawyer triumphantly, "just tell us how your father told you to testify."
"Well," the boy said modestly, "Father told me the lawyers would try to tangle me in my testimony, but if I would just be careful to tell the truth, I could repeat the same thing every time."
Paul is on the witness stand in today’s verse. He had asked to speak to the crowd who wanted to rip him to pieces until the Romans intervened. He sets out exactly who he was, and why he was preaching. When he gets to the place where he tries to explain what God had called him to do, he didn’t describe his task as evangelism, church building, or starting a new church.
He was called to be a witness. He was called to tell everyone what he had seen and heard.
A witness. A witness who tells what he has seen and heard. That is our calling broken down to its most basic: we are to tell others what we have seen and heard in our walk with Jesus. You don’t need seminary, sixteen weeks of intense Bible training, or special booklets with steps you must follow.
Just tell people what Jesus has done in you. Evangelism is one hungry person telling another hungry person where he found bread. If you have felt the transforming love of Jesus in your life, climb up on the witness stand and tell it! Tell people what you have seen and heard God do. You will be amazed at how eloquent you are about you and God.
