The Bad Old Days
Numbers 16:13. Isn’t it enough that you brought us out of Egypt, a land flowing with milk and honey, to kill us here in this wilderness, and that you now treat us like your subjects?
The Israelites had blown it. They refused to enter the Promised Land. Then they doubled down and accused Moses of trying to kill them! They were stuck on stupid.
Notice what they said in today’s verse, “You brought us out of Egypt, a land flowing with milk and honey.” Milk and honey? The Israelites were slaves! They were nothing more than a work force for Pharaoh, and when their usefulness ran out, so would their lives. If Egypt was flowing with milk and honey, the milk was spoiled and the honey was guarded by a bear!
It’s crazy that can we look back at our lives before Christ and think, “I was better off back then.” Yes, you were much better off hungover, or wallowing in your own self-pity and degradation. I’m sure you fondly remember the days when you felt like suicide was the only way out, or people couldn’t trust you because you weren’t a person with a conscience.
Come on, you’re not that stupid.
God comes in and he changes us for the better. Whatever you think you gave up in the “bad old days” is nothing compared to what God offers you now and in eternity. Stay on God’s course and remind yourself how bad it was, or could have been, before you met him.
