The Judas Kiss
Luke 22:48
But Jesus said, “Judas, would you betray the Son of Man with a kiss?”
When Judas kissed Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane, he set events in motion that would cause the death of his Rabbi. Thankfully for us, that death led to a resurrection that brought salvation to us.
There has always been some dissent about Judas. Did he finally just get sick of Jesus and quit believing he was the Messiah? Or, being a zealot, did he think if the Jewish leaders came after Jesus he would finally show his power and become the conquering hero the Jews assumed the Messiah would be? I’m not sure, but I do know this: when Judas kissed Jesus, he sold Jesus out.
As Christians we get pretty bent out of shape about Judas. We wonder how he could betray Jesus like that. He got 30 pieces of silver, and he never even got to spend it.
Realistically, though, we have sold Jesus out for a lot less. We have sold him out for popularity or a shot at fame.
We have sold Jesus out for stolen minutes in the backseat of a car.
We have sold him out to push him off the throne of our lives so we could be in charge.
What is your price? What have you been paid by this world to sell Jesus out? Why not take some time right now to ask him to forgive you for that kiss on the cheek. Then get back to doing what you know is right. You’ll get a lot more than 30 pieces of silver out of serving God fully.
