John 18:37
Pilate said, “So you are a king?”
Jesus responded, “You say I am a king. Actually, I was born and came into the world to testify to the truth. All who love the truth recognize that what I say is true.”
A little baby lies in a manger, wrapped up in cloths. To everybody but his mother and father, he looks like just another baby, nothing exciting here.
But Mary and Joseph know much more about this baby. This is not just any child; he is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. This baby will be the Savior of the World. But not yet, not now.
First, he must grow up just like we do. He must endure the hardships, the pain, the joys we all face on our journey through life. He is one of us, yet he is more.
Years away from the manger, this King who became a baby will face his accusers and be sentenced to a cruel death on the cross. The wooden manger he sleeps in will one day be replaced by a wooden cross on which he will give his life for us.
That baby in the manger, so delicate and sweet, so pure and innocent. Destined to die for us so we can join him in heaven. That little baby, God and man all rolled up into one package. Heaven’s wonder in swaddling clothes. A king, but not an earthly king. A king of eternity, a king who left it all for us.
Take another look at that baby, there is something unmistakable about him. He is God’s love for us in tangible, human form. Go ahead, take another look at that baby…
