Romans 11:4 And do you remember God’s reply? He said, “No, I have 7,000 others who have never bowed down to Baal!”
Take a step back in time with me and let’s spend an afternoon watching black and white TV reruns. Remember this one?
A fiery horse with the speed of light, a cloud of dust and a hearty Hi-Yo Silver! The Lone Ranger! With his faithful Indian companion Tonto, the daring and resourceful masked rider of the plains led the fight for law and order in the early western United States! Return with us now to those thrilling days of yesteryear! The Lone Ranger rides again!
Did you notice something in the introduction? The Lone Ranger wasn’t so lone after all. He had Silver, of course, but he also had Tonto. So, no, he wasn’t alone, but The Not-So-Alone Ranger just didn’t have the right feel.
When Elijah whined to God about Israel he said, “I’m the only one left.” That’s where today’s verse comes in. God told him, “quit whining, I have 7,000 others…”
Sometimes we feel like we are the only Christian in the world. Nobody has suffered for Jesus like we have, nobody has gone through the trials and tribulations we have. We start singing, “Nobody knows the trouble I’ve seen…”
But we are not alone! We have the Holy Spirit who resides within us. Not only that, there are plenty of Christians all around us, we just need to find them. That’s one of the reasons church attendance is vital for Christians. We need to see, hear, and fellowship with other Christians.
So take off your mask, find a local church you can be part of, and dig in. You don’t have to be the Not-So-Lone Ranger.
Today’s Readings: Proverbs 13-15; Romans 11
