Romans 5:19 Because one person disobeyed God, many became sinners. But because one other person obeyed God, many will be made righteous.
You may have never heard of Mary Mallon, but you may know her by her nickname: Typhoid Mary. Mary Mallon worked as a cook for eight different wealthy families in New York in the early 1900’s. But unbeknownst at the time, Mary was a carrier of the bacteria that causes typhus, or typhoid fever. By the time she was identified as the source, over 3,000 New Yorkers had contracted typhoid fever from Mary herself or from people she had infected.
One single source brought so much sickness. In the same way, Adam’s sin caused all of us to be born into sin. Sin separates us from God, and makes us enemies of God. Needless to say, God doesn’t like sin, or the gulf it put between him and us.
So, God being God, took it upon himself to fix this “sin sickness.” That’s why Jesus came to earth. Jesus gave his life on the cross as a substitution for our sins. Jesus had no sin, but he took on ours to allow us to receive eternal life.
One man’s disobedience damned us, one man’s obedience saved us. God’s grace is a gift to you, but you have to receive it. Quit holding yourself back, you can be forgiven, restored, and made whole. All you have to do is receive Christ.
