Colossians 4:17
And say to Archippus, “Be sure to carry out the ministry the Lord gave you.”
My motorhome has an oven. It’s not huge, but it is big enough. In all of our years of traveling full-time, we have never prepared any food in the oven. In fact, we use the oven for extra storage space for pots and pans, and containers.
Even if we wanted to use the oven, we couldn’t; it doesn’t have any propane. The oven needs propane to work, and we don’t have any on board. Even though propane is expensive, that’s not the reason we don’t have it. We have far more efficient electric appliances that can run off of our solar power, so we Don’t need the propane.
So, what do you do with a perfectly good oven in a situation like that? You repurpose it, using it to fulfill a different, yet just as important, need. In our case, we needed storage far more than we needed an empty space.
Have you allowed God to repurpose you? My ministry has taken so many twists and turns through the years. The life I ended up leading is not what I expected or hoped for, yet I believe it is the life God had for me. I have been repurposed many, many times!
At each turn and new ministry opportunity, I had one thought in mind: Just do your job. Notice that Paul told Archippus, “carry out the ministry the Lord gave you…” Not necessarily the one he wanted, or thought he should have, the one God gave him.
Quit looking into some far away day when you have the ministry you want and allow God to repurpose you into the ministry He has for you. That will make you useful now, not some far off future day.
