The Sounds of Easter
Easter…
Shouts and cries of “Hosanna!”
Palm branches and coats lining the streets.
Joy and pandemonium!
Upper Room. Broken bread, spilled wine.
“One of you will betray me…”
“Not me, Lord.”
Darkness, so tired.
“Watch and pray with me…”
So tired… Sleeping
Soldiers, swords, priests
A kiss. Betrayal!
Fear, running, hiding, abandoning.
Watching from afar.
Trumped up charges, liars!
Jesus in the courtyard.
Roman soldiers, whipping, beating, laughing.
Pilate washing his hands.
The crowd chanting, “Bring us Barabbas!”
“His blood be on us and our children!”
Jesus carrying his cross.
Falling, bleeding, dying slowly.
Golgotha, the place of the skull.
Wooden cross, iron nails
Blood spurts, the crowd gasps, some cheer
“Mother, behold your son…”
“Son, behold your mother…”
“Father, forgive them, they don’t know what they do”
“My God, my God why have you forsaken me?”
Weeping, tears, death hangs in the air. But not yet…
A loud cry of triumph, “It… Is… Finished!”
Darkness falls, the earth quakes, the devil rejoices
God’s love is shown for all the world to see.
A borrowed tomb, but not for long
The stone rolls, soldiers faint and Jesus rises!
Our sins forgiven. Jesus lives!
Easter…
Blessings to you… Jerry
