Topsy-turvy
Luke 22:26
But among you it will be different. Those who are the greatest among you should take the lowest rank, and the leader should be like a servant.
There are things that most people accept as true:
· If you swallow gum, it gets stuck in your stomach for seven years.
· People only use 10% of their brain. To be honest, this one seems very true sometimes…
· You have to wait 30 minutes after eating before swimming.
· Kings rule, peasants serve.
Then, you read an article or study that refutes those things, turns your world topsy-turvy and your mind is blown!
· Turns out, gum doesn’t stay in your stomach at all, it just goes out the same way everything else you eat does.
· Studies have shown that all parts of our brain are firing throughout the day.
· No, you don’t have to wait 30 minutes before you swim.
And in today’s verse, Jesus tells the disciples that in order to be great in God’s kingdom you must be a servant.
Jesus did not leave the glory of Heaven to come down here and be a king. He could have, but he didn’t. Jesus came to the earth to be like one of us. If he had been a king, how could I relate to that? I’ve never been a king, had servants, or ruled a kingdom. But I’ve been a common guy my whole life.
That’s what makes the story of Jesus so awe inspiring. He came to earth as a common man, yet fully divine, too. He lived like we do, so he could be one of us. He didn’t come to be served; he came to serve. And that is something we should all do.
