Luke 6:46 “So why do you keep calling me ‘Lord, Lord!’ when you don’t do what I say?
When I first began working at the Sheriff’s Office, one of the older sergeants took me aside and told me, “You will have inmates around you here. They will act like the treat you with respect. They will call you Boss, and do whatever they can to make you think they are good guys. Just remember, there is a reason they are in jail. They learn to play the game in here, they are looking for an edge. Don’t give them one.”
His wisdom was proven true more often than once. The respect that was shown was often a ruse, a way to gain trust so that the trust could be exploited. Sad, but true.
There are a lot of people today who portray themselves as Christians so they can gain popularity or clout. I have seen it in politicians, social climbers, and businesspeople. The problem is that it is all outside, the truth of Christ hasn’t permeated their true being, only their façade.
Just saying, “Lord, Lord,” doesn’t make Jesus Lord of your life. Living each day according to his principles, giving your life wholly to him, those are the things that make him Lord.
If you say he is Lord, but your life doesn’t show it, you are two faced, and nobody likes that. Least of all, the God who created you for more.
