Unfailing Love
Psalms 59:17 O my Strength, to you I sing praises, for you, O God, are my refuge, the God who shows me unfailing love.
I was sitting in a blank white room. No motivational pictures on the wall, no photos, not even an interesting water stain I could look at. Just pure, stark, whiteness. A man sat across the table from me with an apparatus in front of him. Coming from his machine were tubes and wires that were connected to, or wrapped around, me. I was more than a little intimidated.
My polygraph test was about to begin. I had to pass the “poly” to get my job at the Sheriff’s Office. To say I was nervous would be an understatement.
One of the last questions the examiner asked me was, “Have you ever lied to someone who loved and trusted you?” The answer, sadly, was yes.
Over my years of being human I have failed others many times. I have failed my mom, my wife, my kids, churches I have pastored, all kinds of people. I have failed pretty miserably at times. I have also failed God more times than I can count.
Yet, God has never failed me. Not once. There have been times where I thought God had failed, only to find out years later how that supposed failure brought me a greater victory down the road. Turns out God knew what he was doing all along!
I love today’s verse where David refers to God as a refuge, the God who shows unfailing love. God has promised us he would never leave us or forsake us. God has promised us that if we accept his gift of salvation and follow him, our present and our future will be guided by him.
As my Grandpa Brewer used to say, “If God lets you down, you’ll be famous, because you’re the very first person ever.” He was right then, and he is still right. God has unfailing love for you, you can put your trust in him.
