Uniquely You
“Start at the right delta, then follow the ridge to the right and up. You will find a dot. From that dot, count three ridges over and you will find a bifurcation. Stay with that ridge and it will become an ending ridge. Two ridges over you will find another bifurcation that leads to a dot.”
Sound confusing? That is how you read fingerprints. As part of my job at the Sheriff’s Office I was recognized as a court expert on fingerprints. Think of it, of all the people in the world who are living, have ever lived, or will ever live, none of them had the same fingerprints as you. None of them. Not one. A study by the FBI figured the chance of anybody having the same piece of ridge detail on any finger is 1 in 10,000,000,000,000,000. And that study only counted one of the seven patterns!
It really is incredible, and hard to fathom. At least until you factor God into the equation. You see, you are unique to God, He knew you before you were born. In Psalm 139:13, 15-16 David wrote, “You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb…You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb. You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.”
Imagine a God who knew you before anyone else did. Before your parents even picked out a name for you, God had a perfect plan mapped out for your life.
Somebody once asked me why God loves us so much. Why would He send His Son, Jesus, to die for us? The answer is profound… I have no idea. He did it because He loves us, but that is such an easy, Sunday School answer. And yet, no other answer makes sense.
What did we have to offer God? Nothing. What can we do to make Him more complete or add to His riches? Nothing. So, what does He get out of loving us? I don’t know, I just know that He does.
How much does He love us? In Matthew 10:29-30, Jesus said, “What is the price of two sparrows—one copper coin? But not a single sparrow can fall to the ground without your Father knowing it. And the very hairs on your head are all numbered.”
He even has the hairs on our heads numbered. Not counted, numbered. Granted for a guy like me, that job wouldn’t be too tough. But imagine numbering the hairs on the head of a guy like Fabio! Every time Fabio takes a shower and washes those long, golden locks, God doesn’t just know how many hairs are in the drain trap, but which ones they are!
It doesn’t amaze me that God knows me that well. It amazes me that God knows me that well and still loves me! If you knew everything about me you might think twice about reading this post. Don’t get too judgmental, if I knew everything about you, I probably wouldn’t want you to read it!
If God knows you well enough to number your hairs and tailor a set of fingerprints just for you, don’t you think you can trust Him with your life? His plan will be incredible and lead you to more happiness than you can imagine. I guarantee it.
Now excuse me while I go try to paste hairs 314 and 725 back on my head…
