Mark 8:32 As he talked about this openly with his disciples, Peter took him aside and began to reprimand him for saying such things.
If you read enough of the Bible you are to find some things you wish it didn’t say:
“Love your enemies.”
“Turn the other cheek.”
“Forgive seventy times seven.”
As Jesus spoke to the disciples he let them know that he was about to go through some bad times. He would be rejected, beaten, and then killed only to rise three days later.
Peter didn’t want to hear any of this negative kind of talk from Jesus, so he took him aside and reprimanded him! Peter could get too big for his britches sometimes, and this was one of those times. Jesus set him straight pretty quickly:
“Get away from me, Satan!” he said. “You are seeing things merely from a human point of view, not from God’s.”
Ouch!
These sayings of Jesus may be unpopular to us, but that is because we see them from a human point of view instead of a godly point of view. Sure, the Bible steps on our toes sometimes. In fact, if you’re reading the Bible and it doesn’t step on your toes you are either perfect or in denial. I’m betting on the latter.
So by all means, read the Bible. Apply it to your life daily, even the unpopular parts…
