We Can’t Imagine
1 Corinthians 2:9 That is what the Scriptures mean when they say, “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.”
When I was growing up I imagined myself as all kinds of things. We got hold of some old goggles and suddenly we were the heroes of the TV show “The Rat Patrol,” riding our bikes and getting rid of Nazi tanks in WW 2 Africa.
Somebody in the neighborhood got an astronaut helmet, so the Rat Patrol had to wait while we soared through space, killing Martians, and for some reason always running out of oxygen.
I could never imagine the life I would really have, though.
Father of two, with two grandkids.
I stood on the edge of an active volcano in Nicaragua and looked down into it.
I may be the only pastor ever who has processed a vehicle for evidence at 6 AM and preached the first message in brand new church at 11 AM.
I am currently traveling the country in our RV, seeing places and meeting people I never would have dreamed of. No way I could have imagined this twenty years ago.
You can’t imagine the great things God has for you, either. A life full of wonder and new challenges. Maybe it is a ministry you never thought you would do, or serving your community in ways you never thought possible. Who knows?
The only caveat this verse brings is, “for those who love him.” If you don’t love God and won’t serve him, you are on your own. Then your dreams are limited to your imagination alone, and that is nowhere near what God can do for you.
