Acts 27:25-26
So take courage! For I believe God. It will be just as he said. But we will be shipwrecked on an island.”
The 27th and 28th chapters of the Book of Acts read like a calamity of errors. Paul is being sent to Rome so he can stand before Caesar. Today we would just hop in a car, but for Paul and his cohorts it meant setting sail.
At one point in the journey, Paul warns the ships officers, “This is the wrong time of year to be sailing, it could mean shipwreck, loss of cargo, and even death.” They didn’t listen, though, and set sail anyway.
To make a long story short (too late!), they lost the cargo and the ship was about to be wrecked in a huge storm. Paul went to the crew and basically said, “I told you so!” He also told them today’s verse. Take courage, you’re going to survive, but we are going to be shipwrecked.
For us, just like Paul, it’s not a matter of if, it's a matter of when. The storms are coming and there will be adversity, suffering, and pain. Being a Christian does not mean we will never go through a storm; it means that we can have a calm assurance when we do. Not a single life was lost from Paul’s ship.
I have seen so many people abandon God’s ship when the storms of life batter them. But take heart, God is with you.
T. D. Jakes said, "Never make a permanent decision based on a temporary storm. No matter how raging the billows are today, remind yourself: 'This too shall pass!'' Yes, you may be shipwrecked, but God has promised you will be safe in Him.
