2 Timothy 3:8 These teachers oppose the truth just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses. They have depraved minds and a counterfeit faith.
In 2018 the BBC had a story about a sign along a highway in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia that looks like an indecipherable patchwork of various other road signs, mainly because it is.
It has been posted along a provincial highway since late August, when a hotel chain removed its billboard and uncovered the sign beneath.
Betty Burlock took a picture of the sign - a puzzle of French and English route numbers and town names, some upside down - and sent a complaint to the province's transportation department.
In her complaint, she said "it's a wonder cars haven't gone off the road in droves".
That sign is a perfect metaphor for what happens with false teachers. When you pull away the true teachings of Christianity you are left with a confusing jumble that is bound to cause confusion, distraction, and destruction.
These false teachers pretend to be knowledgeable and able to offer help. But when it comes to pointing you in the right direction, their promise of hope quickly disappears. They don’t know the way to Christ, so how can they lead you to him?
How do you guard yourself against false teaching? Become a student of God’s Word. Don’t just believe everything you read (including here) until you check it out against the Bible. Water from a mountain running stream is so much better than city water from a garden hose. Go to God’s Word and you will find the right direction.
Today’s Readings: 2 Kings 13,14; 2 Chronicles 25: 2 Timothy 3
